A great tip to consider in regards to gardening is to consider building your compost piles in close proximity to your garden. This is important because it will save you long trips with a wheel barrow. Make the most out of the features of your yard and plan for ease of use.
If you have a compost pile, but have very few leaves to add to it this fall, try incorporating straw or hay into your compost pile. This is a great way to add carbon which is very beneficial to the growth and health of plants. The straw and hay may contain seeds, so it is best to use an organic weed spray on your compost pile to get rid of the unwanted weeds.

Layer your compost pile like lasagna. By having different layers interspersed throughout the whole pile you can best encourage proper decay and development of fresh fertilizer. Generally you want to have your dry leaves and sugary materials on the bottom, manure or already decomposing materials in the middle, and a nice layer of top soil leech the nutrients.
